A Day at the Park

Okay, it was really an hour, but for me that's good. It's another beautiful day here in Memphis - sun is shining, birds are chirping, high of 75 degrees, and not a cloud in the sky. I am usually not much of an outdoors person, and unfortunately Elise gets the raw end of the deal on that one. But, I figured I better take advantage of it while I can. The summers in Memphis are too hot to do much of anything outside and the winters are a little chilly for playing at the park, so I couldn't resist heading outside today.

We started with a quick 15 minute brisk walk for me to get a little exercise and then made our way to the park near our house. I pushed Elise on the swing for a while and she loved it. As I pushed her, she would point to the swing next to it and want me to get in it. So, I would give her a good push, hop in the swing and we would swing contentedly next to each other until we both stopped and then start all over again. After that, it was on to the slide. I taught her how to climb up the bars to get to the slide and then she would zoom down and we would do it all over again. The times when she has been to the park with her father have resulted in her learning how to throw the pebbles down the slide, so we did that for a while as well. After several minutes of throwing rocks (at least she doesn't eat them like her father did when he was little), a preschool from down the street descended on us and suddenly Elise had some competition for the slide. All was peaceful with the other kids and she enjoyed watching them play.

I'm proud to report that we have experienced our first minor playground injury. I wish I could say that it due to a difficult and daring stunt that she was attempting and just lost her concentration for a second, but I can't. It was the result of her walking into a wooden post with her cheek because she was too busy watching the other kids. But, we rubbed some dirt on it and got back out there!

After we were done at the park, it was another 15 minutes of walking for more exercise and then back home. Soon it will be lunch time and then my favorite part of the day, naptime! Hope you are all having as nice of a day as we are.

Beautiful Day

It's such a gorgeous day here in Memphis! As of 9:00 this morning, it's only 64 degrees outside and mostly sunny. I have all my windows open and there is a gentle breeze coming through the house. I love it! I love fall! Fall in Memphis usually takes forever to arrive since it's often still in the 80's and 90's until October. But today the high is 78 degrees so we will get to enjoy a small break in the heat until the 90's take over again in a couple days.

What's the weather like today where you live?

Happy Anniversary!

Jeremy and I are celebrating our 8th wedding anniversary today. It seems like just yesterday we were planning the wedding and saying our "I Do's", but at the same time, it seems like a life time ago.

I love my husband and my marriage in ways that I can not even describe. The Lord has blessed our life together and I can't imagine spending the past 8 years or the years to come with anyone else in the whole world.

"Mother of the Year" I am not

Today my child fell asleep on the kitchen floor rug while I was on the phone. She got her blankie, laid down on her stomach and fell asleep.

My Happy Places Homework

A few weeks ago, my BFWW blogged about the places in her house that make her happy when she looks at them. She challenged her faithful blog following to do the same. So, in true "Kim" fashion here is my assignment - complete and a little late.

This is my couch that I like to stretch out on and makes me happy

This is the view from my couch that makes me happy

Labor Day Weekend 2006

We have returned from a our short trip to Grand Rapids over the Labor Day weekend. We had such a great time up there.

We got up early on Friday morning to get to the airport for our 7:15 flight, only to find out that it was delayed for an hour and a half. This meant we would not make our connecting flight in Cincinnati so they had to rebook us on a completely different airline to get us to GR at a reasonable time. I was nervous about how Elise would do on the flights and she did okay. There were a few tense moments when she would let out a yell that sent a few dirty looks our way, but overall, she did great. Friday evening we went to the wedding of our friends, Brent and Christina. Christina and I were college roommates and Brent and Jeremy were high school friends and college roommates. It was great to see all of our college friends that night. We are scattered all over the country now and all of us except a few were able to make it to the wedding.

Jer and I got a hotel room for the night and left Elise with Grandma and Grandpa. The next morning we had brunch with the newlyweds and the rest of the gang and then headed out to Jeremy's parents for the rest of the weekend. We had a nice time with them and had a chance to see the rest of the family, too. Elise was sufficiently spoiled by Grandma and Grandpa over the weekend and had a great time with them. This week has been declared "Elise Deprogramming Week" in our house. "No, Elise, you can't have ice cream for lunch." "No, Elise, you can't watch Sesame Street all day long." "No, Elise, you can't have cheetos for dinner."

It was a great weekend and we are so glad we were able to make it to the wedding and spend the weekend with the family. I hope you all had great Labor Day weekends as well!
