Where's Your Nose?

Here is a quick update on Elise's latest achievement. She is beginning to point to different body parts when asked. Mommy's little genius! She began doing this a few months ago and started with just a few - belly, belly button, and socks (ok, that's not a body part, but give her a break, she's only 1). Over the past few months, she has progressed to pointing to her ears, hair, mouth, sometimes eyes, hands, feet, and sticking her finger up my nose when asked to point to hers (hey, they can't all be gifted). It seems like only yesterday that we were bringing home our little four pound bundle and now she is following directions. How time flies! Now, if we can just get her to walk...

A Fun Weekend

Over Easter weekend, Jeremy's parents and sister, Megan, came for a visit. They have been coming down every Easter weekend for the past 3 years, so I guess you could say that it is becoming a tradition. The weekend consisted mostly of walks to the park and paying attention to Elise with some Memphis sightseeing and an intense game of Scrabble thrown in the middle. Most of us went to church (we won't name those who didn't) on Sunday and then we cooked a wonderful meal which we enjoyed as a family and with our friends James and Joy. Of course the weekend wouldn't have been complete without a huge Easter basket from Grandma and Grandpa that included a big pink ball and a rubber duck about the same size as Elise. Overall, it was a wonderful way to celebrate Easter. We all had a good time and are looking forward to next year!

TV Addicts Unite!

The other day I was instant messaging with my step-sister-in-law about her blog. She had a really good one going - mostly about TV, but then she got sidetracked with work, getting married, etc., etc and quit posting for about a year. Recently, she began posting again. I told her I was glad to see her back at it. She sounded unsure about whether or not she wanted to keep going with it because she was afraid that people would think she had no life and all she did was watch TV. Because I know her personally, I know that this is not the case and that she just enjoys critiquing TV and pop culture in general (this is what we learned to do at the college we went to). But, to not make her feel like she is alone in this, I wanted to stand along side her. So, here goes, Liz...

Hello, my name is Kim and I am a televisionaholic.

I am coming to terms with this and not afraid to admit it any longer. I love TV and all kinds of shows. I understand I watch too much and am working on that, but I don't think I will ever give it up. My appointment TV includes Survivor, desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, The Amazing Race, Airline, sometimes CSI, The Simpsons, reruns of Beverly Hills, 90210, and since I am being honest here, a few soap operas. So, there you have it. I am a TV junkie and I am not ashamed.

Now I have to go - it's just about time for Guiding Light...

Please Direct Your Attention to the Center Ring...

The circus came to town a couple weeks ago and we had ringside seats! It made a special appearance at our house only. We saw clowns, acrobats, and even some trained (and sometimes not so trained) animals. These performers were my sister, her husband, and their 3 daughters. They came down to visit during their spring break and we had a great time. We did all kinds of local Memphis stuff including walking along the Mississippi River, shopping, seeing the ducks march into the fountain at the Peabody Hotel, and enjoying Gus' Fried Chicken. We also got to spend a lot of time just hanging out and the kids had a blast together. Elise had so much fun with her cousins around, she was very sad when the circus packed up and headed out of town.

First Words

After 16 months, Elise has decided to start saying a few words. She now has about 3 words that she seems to intentionally say. "Daddy" - this word seems to be used for many different things, but she does occasionally use it correctly. "Bye Bye" - She is getting pretty good at this one and seems to know the appropriate time to use it along with waving. And the final one is "Roomba." This is our robotic vacuum cleaner that she is very afraid of, but enjoys looking at it from a safe distance. She will crawl over to it, point at it and say, "mmmba." So, to recap, our Elise's brilliant first words are: Daddy, Bye Bye, and Roomba. Now if we can just get her to walk...

Finally...I Have Arrived!

It's about time for me to get this started! I have been thinking and talking about starting a blog for some time now, but kept putting it off. Not sure why, just being lazy and sometimes I have trouble committing to something so permanent that everyone can see and judge for themselves. But, here I am with a little insight into my life as a wife to Jeremy and a stay-at-home mom to 17 month old Elise. My sister is way into scrapbooking and has tried to get me into it as well. It's just not my thing. I'm not very creative and tend to get all worked up about how each page is going to look. It takes so long to do each page and I end up putting it off (you will soon discover what a procrastinator I am). I have a few scrapbooks started, but nothing finished and am about 7 years behind on my pictures. And just forget about me keeping udated with a baby book for Elise - she is over a year old and I have yet to write anything in it. So, instead I am jumping into the 21st century and creating a virtual scrapbook, if you will. Enjoy!
